In this episode, host John Dooley is speaking with passionate heart heath advocate Katrina Umback.
In 2019, Katrina’s husband Scott, died from a heart attack while awaiting an emergency flight to Melbourne.
It was a devastating loss for Katrina and her young sons and it’s what drives her commitment to preventing avoidable deaths from cardiovascular disease.
Katrina has worked with organisations including the heart foundation, Shane Warne legacy, La Trobe university, Mildura rural city council, and the local healthcare community to reduce the burden of heart disease across rural populations.
As an ambassador for the heart foundation’s adventure for hearts, Katrina has helped to put a spotlight on heart health.
Katrina is the Mildura rural city council citizen of the year 2025, and she also serves as chair of the Monash rural health Mildura community advisory committee.

The Mildura Base Public Hospital Foundation is excited to be launching this podcast series that will build on the success of the Foundation’s Heartbeat magazine, which has just published its eighth edition.
Together, the magazine and the podcast, will further the community engagement the magazine has established.
Building on the success also of the Frames of History project in Mildura, local history will also be a topic featured.
Importantly, the podcast will provide an opportunity for key organisations in Mildura and the region to showcase what they do and how they contribute to the community.
The podcast will have a variety of guests from all sectors of the community – the arts, agriculture, business, hospitality, education, industry, local government, members of parliament, emergency services and sports.
